Tower Hill - All the Details
Share
At long last, the Tower Hill quilt pattern is here!
This pattern has been in the works for well over a year, so I am thrilled to FINALLY release it. I hope you love this pattern as much as I do! :) Let's dive in, shall we?
The Inspiration Behind the Pattern
I have fond memories of visiting the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill when I was young. Wandering through the gardens and fields, perusing the tropical forest-like collection of potted plants in the Orangerie, and listening to the frogs and birds chirp away by the Wildlife Refuge Pond. If you're in the New England area, I highly recommend taking a day trip to visit! (more info at https://nebg.org/).
This brings me to this latest quilt pattern, Tower Hill. My two previous patterns, Easthampton and Stagecoach, are composed of the same repeating block. So for this, I wanted to mix it up and use 2 different blocks to give it a patchwork feel. I landed on alternating flower and leaf blocks for the final design. The end result is a contemporary, geometric design that evokes memories of the flower gardens I adored at Tower Hill.
Pattern Details
The Tower Hill pattern includes instructions to make everything from a sweet Baby quilt to a whopping King size quilt. Plus, the design can be easily tweaked to accommodate any size because it is block based - simply add or subtract rows or columns to create a different size (just keep in mind that if going rogue, the fabric requirements may change).
The Tower Hill quilt pattern also includes instructions to make a "traditional" version (aka using a limited number of colors) using yardage, and a scrappy-like fat quarter version. The pattern includes 3 pages of vibrant mockups (plus a coloring page) for inspiration on color selection to enhance each design option.
Since creating mock-ups is one of my favorite things to do to pass the time, here is a handful in the traditional option to help get the creative juices flowing.
The mockups below are done in more "natural" or literal garden color ways. Think swirling green foliage and flower petals in orange, pink, and purple hues:

And now for some fun, these mockups were created with blue and peach foliage, because why not:

Now, let's talk about my hands-down FAVORITE option when it comes to quilts: the fat quarter option.
There's just something about a fat quarter of fabric that draws me in completely. At ~18" x 21" in size, it's packs in enough real estate to accommodate larger cuts, yet small enough that it doesn't feel like a huge investment (both storage space-wise and financial investments). Plus, who can resist those darling fat quarter bundles?! Fat quarters offer such an easy way to get all of the fabric goodness from an entire collection without breaking the bank (or hogging all of your storage space). I digress...
The Tower Hill pattern includes a fat quarter option that is perfect for those adorable bundles you have stashed away. Plus, you can mix and match to create a unique, scrappy and happy quilt :)

Play with Background Color
The Tower Hill pattern is an excellent opportunity to try something new when it comes to your choice of color. I don't know about you, but I tend to get stuck in a background color rut with my quilts. I veer more towards using light colored fabrics for my backgrounds. I guess I should call it my comfort zone, because I rarely use darker background fabrics. Not sure why, just personal preference, perhaps?
Anyway, how about we mix things up and play around with background color? Try giving one of these options a go! The background colors in these mockups are all from Art Gallery Fabrics PURE Solids collection and the color name is included in the titles :)
How about a few more? Yeah, why not!
Psssst...I have a few quilt kits in stock for ALL of these mockups below! Find them under the Fabric - Quilt Kits section in the shop :)
